This just kinda sparked on me as I was leaving a comment on a blog.\u00a0 After writing up the comment I had to select an account to post under.\u00a0 The selections were reasonably prominent sites like Google and Twitter.\u00a0 So, cool. (^_^)<\/p>\n
Then, I had to fill out a Captcha.\u00a0 Hmm… I don’t mind.\u00a0 At least it wasn’t one of those epic complicated and scrambled ones that take a few trys to get right.\u00a0 So, cool. (^_^)<\/p>\n
Then, instead of seeing my comment in place, I see a message telling me that my comment will be visible after being approved.\u00a0 That’s fine.\u00a0 It was just a comment.\u00a0 So, cool. (^_^)<\/p>\n
But, wow… As much as I can jump each hurdle without problem or complaint… That was quite a few hurdles.\u00a0 So, hmmmm… I get to thinking. (-_-)<\/p>\n
Oh, if you’ve checked out the blogorum lately, they’re getting spammed again! XD<\/p>\n
Like, some monies scam or trade or whatever.\u00a0 It got to the point where they pushed all the legit posts off the front page.\u00a0 Frigg’n wicked bold, that. (^_^)<\/p>\n
So, I mention to my friends… Dude! My own bloody blog has better spam protection than that… And, it’s really only one service plus one default rule.\u00a0 Akismet reports that it has protected me from nearly 300 spams.\u00a0 It’s a good system. (^_^)<\/p>\n
Same goes for LL Blogs, Youtube videos and such… Even to the point where comments are totally shut off for certain postings. (>_<)<\/p>\n
We all have our walls. (._.)<\/p>\n
It’s been easier to clearly define them as well.\u00a0 Especially on an internet driven by mute, ignore, kick, ban, disconnect.\u00a0 We can seal ourselves up in our comfortable homes and flame away while plugging our virtual ears from any response. (>_<)<\/p>\n
Now, it’s not all a bad thing… Because, there are a whole bunch of other people doing the same.\u00a0 And, who want’s to be flamed?\u00a0 (>_<)<\/p>\n
Then, there are the spammers.\u00a0 Just saying stuff because they can.\u00a0 Offering links to yourdickcangetlonger.com or whatever.\u00a0 I can’t believe they’re delusional enough to think that it’s even a borderline viable form of advertising anymore.\u00a0 Force feeding information to people who basically don’t want it.\u00a0 (=_=)<\/p>\n
But, that’s just it.\u00a0 In protecting ourselves, we have become more and more psychologically aggressive.\u00a0 If you want to get through to someone, you have to compare their stance to Nazism.\u00a0 People take offense to extremes, even so much as comparing the termination of an account as some sort of “death”.\u00a0 (O.o)<\/p>\n
I dunno.\u00a0 I’m surely guilty of my share of flaming too.\u00a0 But mute, ignore, kick ban… I reserve those things.\u00a0 My current mute list, empty.\u00a0 My estate ban list, empty.\u00a0 Even here on my blog, how many hoops does anyone have to jump through to post here?\u00a0 As far as I know, they\u00a0 just gotta offer an Email address and get past my great Akismet guard doggie. =^-^=<\/p>\n
I wonder what causes this threshold, though.\u00a0 I can be with a friend and someone is harassing us.\u00a0 I think nothing of it and often just laugh.\u00a0 Whereas, my friend will be troubled by it.\u00a0 We clearly have different thresholds.\u00a0 It’s not a bad thing, but, it changes how we react to the same situation.\u00a0 And, a lot, if not all, of the grief we get from the situation is based on how we react. (^_^)<\/p>\n
Like I said… I dunno.\u00a0 =^-^=<\/p>\n
At the same time… My site, my rules.\u00a0 I got this host so that I can be as unrestricted as possible.\u00a0 I think, keeping the walls down in comment blocking is sort of my return in favor for being able to say whatever I want.\u00a0 Tit for tat, y’know? (^_^)<\/p>\n
Why I’m still behaving myself is beyond me… (O.o)<\/p>\n
